Interlibrary Loan (Ill)

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) lets you borrow materials the Library, or the larger MLN network, don’t own. We request these items from libraries on your behalf. Once the item arrives, we place it on the holds cart at the Circulation Desk and notify you via email.

What We Can ILL

  • Physical books (7-10 business days)

  • Individual article pdfs (1-3 business days)

  • Single chapters from ebooks (1-3 business days)

  • Physical DVDs and media (7-10 business days)

What We Can’t ILL

  • Full ebooks (copyright restrictions)

  • Current course textbooks (too high demand)

  • Library of Things objects (rarely permitted for ILL)

  • Physical books that are available through MLN. It is much faster for users to do this themselves. Search olin.minlib.net first and place a hold instead (see Activate Library Account for instructions).

How to Request an ILL

You have two options:

  • ILL form: fill out the standalone request form at library.olin.edu, which is in the top navigation bar on all pages.

  • Olin Scholar — when a search returns an item we don't own, Olin Scholar generates an ILL request for it directly.

Renewals

Contact us before the due date to ask us to request a renewal. The lending library sets due dates and approves renewals. We will notify you when the lending library approves (or denies) the request. Please abide by due dates in order to keep the Olin Library in good standing with the lending libraries.
