Course waivers
Course Waivers: Students with proficiency in a given academic area may challenge a requirement in that area.
A course waiver does not provide credit for a given requirement; rather, it exempts the student from completing that requirement. A sufficient number of credits in the academic area must be taken in place of the requirement. For example, waiving the Arts, Humanities, Social Science (AHS) Foundation requirement will require the student to take 4 credits of AHS in lieu of the foundation.
To request a waiver, students must complete the
Course Waiver Approval Form
, including obtaining the signature of a professor who currently or routinely teaches the course for which the waiver is being requested. The professor will decide what evidence is required to prove that the student is eligible for the waiver and review this evidence before signing the form.
The completed and signed form must then be submitted to the Registrar’s office.
Notation of all waivers will be placed on the student’s degree audit and on their transcript.
