Committee on Student Academic Performance (COSAP)

The Committee on Student Academic Performance (COSAP) is empowered to review, interpret and enforce academic performance policies. At the end of each semester the committee reviews the all student grades in accordance with the academic performance policy, and progress toward the degree. Additionally, the committee acts as an appellate body for students with academic performance grievances.

COSAP reviews student petitions for exceptions to other academic performance policies. The twenty credit maximum course load policy is a typical example of a petition to COSAP.  Olin students are only permitted to take more than 20* credits if there are exceptional circumstances. An example of exceptional circumstances include health issues, now resolved, that prevented a student from taking 16 credits/semester previously. Please explain how your situation qualifies as exceptional circumstances on the form. Note: a desire to take more classes is not considered an exceptional circumstance. The form can be found on the FORMS section of the Registrar's website. Petitions should be submitted no later than the last day to add a course

This committee is chaired by the Associate Dean for Academic Programs or designee (non-voting, except in the case of a tie) and consists of the Registrar (non-voting), the Dean of Students, the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and two faculty members. Students wishing to appeal a decision made by COSAP must submit their appeal to the Registrar within one week of the original decision.
